A Trend Setter…
Power star as he is popularly known in this region is considered as one of the charismatic trend-setters in Tollywood. Say it the martial arts he portrayed in Thammudu, or his gutsy dialogue delivery in Badri, or the hoarse haa-haa grunt in Khushi, or the double-pants he wore in Gudumba Sankar, everything he did was a rage and everything he introduced was a trend. Another unique trait of his is to give voice to folk songs in his movies. Recent one of those ‘Katam Rayuda’ from yet to be released ‘Atharintiki Daredi’ went viral on social media garnering over two million hits on YouTube.
Roller coaster career..
Much like a well composed movie script his film career also consists of triumphing moments of a winning soldier and down time which brought him close to real life lessons. After hitting the bull’s eye with continuous hit movies in a record breaking spree he was introduced to the other side of success with his directorial debut film ‘Jhonny’. It was exactly that period (before Jhonny) when his craze peaked to unreachable heights placing him well beyond his contemporaries. And then his career slowly started flattening with his movies failing one after the other. That might have humbled him a bit, could have taken him to filmy reality, but his image as a crowd-pulling actor would never be in trouble, producers were mostly in safe zone barring one or two. ‘Tholi Prema’ and ‘Khushi’ remained as classics in the minds of yearning fans, for long years that followed.
Return of a powerstar and how..
Trivikram Srinivas revived Pawan Kalyan’s falling graph with ‘Jalsa’ in 2008, by ending seven years of drought. Sanjay Sahu‘s character in this film did wonders showcasing him in wide-range of emotions, his standout performance when he loses both of his parents within a day in the flashback episode affirms how good an actor he is. Pawanism was born by then and a powerful phenomenon was in making.. ‘Gabbar Singh’ announced his stamina at box-office in an astounding manner reassuring his fans hopes for seeing him at the top again, but to many of them number game has never been a bother.
A multifaceted technician par excellence..
Kamal Haasan is probably the only South Indian actor who is known as a technician cum actor before Pawan Kalyan came into limelight. Even though we can’t compare Pawan Kalyan with a versatile universal star like Kamal Haasan, his multi-crafts can not be ignored either. From costume designing to action choreography to donning the microphone, Pawan Kalyan touched almost every craft in the technician book. He choreographed songs in Badri, provided stunt choreography to Chiranjeevi, did playback singing for folk songs in half a dozen movies, and was also bold enough to attempt an offbeat film when his career was at peaks.
Controversies..
Media had always turned cold eye towards him by over publicizing his personal life. There were rumors of a politician tonsuring Pawan Kalyan’s head which he overturned in a face-to-face question hour given to a popular news channel. His unsuccessful first marriage with Nandini who he divorced later legally in 2008 was shown as a sky-falling news on all major tv channels. Even though he said that he’s happily married to Renu Desai, but rumor mills were never shut down by bringing out speculated break-up between them time and again. Not stopping at there, another controversy of he having a live-in relationship with ‘Dana Marks’ (his co-star in ‘Teenmar’) topped the headlines which went on to quote that he’s the unofficial father to her baby girl. There is also news of a rift between him and his brother Chiranjeevi internal to his family. While we can’t validate any of these we agree that media needs a living after all.
Politics and Social activities..
He actively campaigned for his brother’s political party ‘Praja Rajyam’ during 2009 general elections as the head of its youth wing ‘Yuva Rajyam’. He started Common Man Protection Force (CMPF) in an attempt to bring justice to common and donated 1 Crore rupees towards the cause. He has also donated 24 lakhs to flood hit Uttarakhand recently. Apart from these he’s known for helping poor artists in the industry and other unpublicized philanthropic activities. He’s currently distanced himself from all things politics and concentrating on his personal life and career.
Pawanism..
Pawan Kalyan fans in particular have a special nature in terms of their adulation, loyalty and engagement in various social activities. It is not a fallacy to say that he in his current form has taken over Megastar. For instance take any audio function of recent mega family movies; you would hear the yearning chants for powerstar. It was quite visible in Racha and Yevadu audio functions as fans chanted Pawan Kalyan’s name rhetorically even in the presence of Megastar Chiranjeevi. The madness was so loud that it irritated Chiranjeevi on few occasions forcing him to simply say few smooth words on Pawan Kalyan to calm down the situation, such is the hysteria. In real life Pawan Kalyan is a star sans flamboyance, a demi-god to the lakhs of entranced fans for that he would move them into a trance of mesmerizing surreal worlds. Just a glimpse of him walking in the mist for few seconds in the recently released Atharintiki Daredi teaser gathering a million and half hits in itself speaks bundles about the enigma he creates. Pawanism is no less to religion for his fans, as they celebrate his birthday today all over the world, you can smell it in the air.
